Le jeu de cabrette est essentiellement soliste. C’est un jeu de cornemuse sans bourdon, monophonique, auquel une illusion polyphonique est ajoutée par un rappel permanent sur la fondamentale du hautbois, suggérant un effet « bourdon ». La véritable polyphonie est donnée par le jeu de pieds du cabrettaïre, car chaque air est rythmé par un battement plus ou moins complexe, ternaire ou binaire. It's a bagpipe without drone, monophonic, to which a polyphonic illusion is added by a permanent recall on the oboe fundamental, suggesting a "drone" effect.
